First Impressions

Quick side note: I have recently come to the UK from South Africa and this is my experience so far.

London...

WOW WOW WOW!

It has been such a sensory overload for me! There is SO MUCH to see. And SO MUCH to do! Many things cost a lot of money, others not so much, and of course there's the free stuff too;)

Arrived at Gatwick - while landing see plenty of green, and of course the city too. Was an overcast day and making my way in a place I don't know to a place I don't know was interesting...oh, don't forget the HUGE ASS backpack! My poor poor back for days after that... but it was alright. Followed the directions, and made it all in one piece albeit in need of a chiropractor!

The infamous London crappy weather I seem to have missed. Was overcast the first few days but eversince it's been blue skies. Apparently not going to last - so I'm making the most of the sunshine:) It's been a small adjustment coming to winter from summer (although the few weeks before I left SA seemed to be preparing me for London weather with all the rain)

I've done (and will be doing plenty more) the touristy sight seeing thing and I feel as though I'm a country bumpkin coming to the big city for the first time! *blush*

There really is just too much to take in all at once. This city is steeped in history. And right alongside it you have the 21st century. The buildings are magnificent and I really don't know where to look and what to do first!

Seeing the London West End... I was like a kid in a toy store! SO MANY THEATRES! SO MANY SHOWS! I want to see them ALL! Alas... I have no job (yet) so spending all my money NOT such a great idea...and the tickets don't exactly come cheap either...

Job hunting..oi. Ja. Working through agencies, too much paperwork and decisions to make and not really sure about any of it. Half the time i'm like 'what to do, what to do' :/

I had some doubts about coming to the UK and actually doing this despite it being something I've wanted to do for a long time already. Like finding a JOB! and coming to place in a strange land where I don't know a soul! And of course...coming all on my ACE!

BUT I'm here now...and enjoying it. The job hunting, looking for accommodation is all part of the experience.

OH, the saying 'these boots were made for walking' has definitely taken on greater meaning! The amount of walking I've done is INSANE! My feet and my calves...the agony...should be all right in a week or so :p Being a foot soldier again another adjustment...but it's a fabulous way to see the city!
